BREAKING MY SILENCE

Yes, yes, my friends, settle down, the rumors are true. It was me you saw on TV.
I’ve worked on the radio for two years now, but my journalistic heart had a fluttering moment when I stepped foot inside the TV studio of Eva Jinek.

It wasn’t my first time in a TV studio, but it was my first time going on air. Performance anxiety has never been an issue for me, but today I was fueled by excitement. It was a historic day for the country: Election day. A tight race even!

Not only was the debut, my face on the screen, on Dutch national television, but also my first gig as a vocalist.
A double debut!

We stood there in an empty studio: just us; the ZO! Gospel Choir, the band, and a few producers, for the soundcheck. Then a camera check. Constant reiterations, quick changes, and fast adaptations later, we wrapped up what felt like 15 minutes, but in reality, it had been almost 3 hours.

Coming back later to a fully transformed studio, with the full force of production, a crew, a studio audience, and producers whispering into my in-ear, like the little mice you hear scurrying behind a kitchen wall, keeping everyone in check and in their places, it was surreal.

And then, finally, we got the chance to close the show. Prime time television. Prime time.
On the one day every 4 years, half of the nation sits in front of their TVs, to watch the results.

All this to say: after today, you can officially book me as a vocalist.
